One thing I love seeing in scenes is when players create elaborate visual set-ups that the audience has to imagine. Sometimes it’s environmental — I remember a great Brick gag where the scene took place in “Office Narnia,” a private hide-away space that included weightlifting gear, endless bootleg cigarettes (“Camle” brand) and a cum bucket. OR! There was another time in the Program when the players assembled to create a giant, walking Statue of Liberty composed of dead bodies.
Other times it’s generated by the characters themselves — there was a great Dunk bit where the fumes from Taylor’s “stinky leg” was so overpowering that it physicalized and could knock people out. And sometimes it is as simple as an article of clothing on a character. Anytime a character is revealed as wearing overalls, a Buckingham Palace-guard-hat, or a Batman outfit, I love watching players take these cues and physicalize them or working them into the scene. What I’m saying is that I like to use my imagination! People!
I saw a Horses show recently and Fed’s character was obsessed with the Bodies exhibit and over the course of the show got his own body suit and crashed a dinner party with it on.
I got to use my imagination. I liked it!
I drew a picture of what I imagined it looked like:
Get it? You get it. I will hopefully be doing more of these as time goes on. Oh, if you want to see pictures from that show, you can do so here.

I love ketchup. A LOT. In fact, embarrassingly, I was called out at Mustang Sally’s last week for trying to sneakily eat a whole plate of ketchup… by itself. Weird and gross, I know. But it also means that I’ve never been more excited for a show than I am for Justin Peters’ one man show, Confessions of a Condiment Hustler. Ketchup? Comedy? HOW COULD I NOT LOVE IT?
Don’t like ketchup so much that it makes people uncomfortable? There are still plenty of other reasons to be absolutely psyched about this show! Fresh off of his run with the fantastic Megawatt team, Dunk, and new member of Chet Watkins, Peters is a phenomenally funny improviser and actor and this show promises to live up to his high standards of awesomeness. AND – breaking news! – Saucy by Nature, the gourmet, all-natural sauce company, will be in the lobby beforehand with sauce samples and things to buy! more
Lauren Olson & George Fernandez
The Megawatt Performer Profile Series is a quick way to get to know some of the excellent improvisers that make up Megawatt, Magnet’s house team system.
Lauren Olson has been on a Megawatt team since 2007, and George Fernandez is brand new. Both are funny, great to watch, and wonderfully nice people who are always ready to play onstage and off.
Each sat down with fellow Magnet performer Jolene Turner to answer a few questions about what they get out of Megawatt, what they put into it, and what makes them laugh. more
