FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

MAGNET THEATER ANNOUNCES GRAND OPENING

NEW YORK, NY March 7, 2005 – Magnet Theater announces the grand opening of its school of improvisation and theater in Chelsea. Registration for classes in improvisation and sketch writing has already begun. Magnet is offering a special grand opening discount- all classes are $199. And for those who want to try before they buy, Magnet Theater offers a free trial class. Classes are designed for beginners and advanced students, actors, comedians, artists, and people who just want to have some fun.

The Magnet was formed by Armando Diaz, Ed Herbstman, Shannon Manning, and Alex Marino. The first three met in Chicago, where they all studied longform improvisation with Del Close. Herbstman and Marino previously taught and managed, respectively, at Diaz’s former theater in New York, the Peoples Improv Theater. Magnet is also pleased to welcome Second City veteran Abby Sher as an instructor and performer. Sher was likewise a student of Del Close and will be a vibrant complement to the renowned teaching skills of Armando Diaz and Ed Herbstman.

The addition of Magnet Theater to an area populated by three other improv theaters cements Chelsea’s reputation as a true improv district, and furthers New York’s reputation as a vibrant center for learning and performing longform improvisation.

New York audiences and current and future students will get to see the power of improv for art and fun when performances begin at the Magnet’s street-level theater at 29th and 8th Avenue, on track for early April.
